Albion makes big impact as teams gear up for semis

09 Mar, 2010 08:13 AM
ALBION Tennis Club has emerged from years in the wilderness to feature prominently in the Western Region Tennis Association finals. Judged purely on numbers, Albion is one of the smallest clubs of the region, but the addition of new courts combined with the enthusiasm of players and coaching staff has helped it reach new heights.

Two pennant teams will feature in semi-final action on Saturday, with club treasurer Lisa Fisher predicting big things from the section 4 team consisting of Paul Hair and Jonathan Patatsos.

"We have high hopes for both our pennant teams, but with Paul and Jon playing on their home court, they are both fairly confident of winning through to the grand final." Albion could also be celebrating some junior success with four out of five teams playing for a spot in the decider.

The Sunday junior competition will see two Albion teams vying for a grand final berth in separate semi-finals, raising the possibility of an all-Albion final.

"Having so many teams in finals is a great advertisement for the club and especially the work of coach David McAllister, who has been fantastic."
