DEER Park established a foothold in Bowls Victoria division 2 section 1 top four on Saturday at the expense of one its biggest rivals.
The Parkers moved ahead of the pack with a sweet 82-67 victory over Sunshine City at Ballarat Road.
Parkers president Ray 'Bluey' Franksen said his side was afforded a "bit of breathing space" with three rounds left in the season.
"There's been bugger all in it all season," he said. "We got 16 of a possible 18 points from it."
The Parkers had to fight back from a two-shot deficit at the mid-point of the match to win.
The faster the greens got on a steaming hot day, the better the home side played.
"Once we started to get close they began to panic a bit," Franksen said.
The standout rink for the Parkers was club champion Geoff White, who had a runaway 26-10 win.
Phil Mininti carved up his opponent for a cruisy win and Adam Berry fought hard to get the spoils.
The lone rink that got up on the day for the Parkers was Geoff Penozzo.
The Parkers, in the four by the skin of their teeth heading into the weekend, built the game up as a must win and saluted in the best possible way.
"It was absolutely like a final," Franksen said. "Everything fell into place."
