GYMNASTICS Unlimited founder Vladimir Shorinov is thrilled with the achievements of his level 1 preparation team.
The Kealba-based club is celebrating a silver medal at the Gymnastics Victoria state pennant event.
The local team, made up of talented seven and eight-year-olds, finished second to Essendon Keilor Gymnastics Academy and the Ararat Gymnastics Club in the event in Donvale. "It's a very big achievement," Shorinov said.
"There were over 30 clubs competing from all over Victoria and it's the Victorian championships for juniors.
"They did well on all four pieces of equipment - the floor, beam, bars and vault."
The team was instructed and guided by coach Alysha Montebello. She has overseen the development of the youngsters for the past two years.
Shorinov, 52, who opened Gymnastics Unlimited not long after coaching the New Zealand national team at the 2000 Olympics, says the correct infrastructure and coaching have to be in place for results such as this to occur.
"The good atmosphere in the club gives them a good opportunity to achieve this level."
