THERE will be no shortage of motivation for defending champions Green Gully Cavaliers in the Victorian Premier League this season.
The Cavs have set their sights on becoming the first team since the great Altona Magic sides of the mid-1990s to achieve a three-peat of titles.
Cavs general manager Raymond Mamo told the Weekly there is an insatiable appetite for success within the playing group.
"If a player is not motivated, it's time to move on," he said.
"The guys wanted to do it last season.
"There's no reason why the boys can't do it again."
Only four times in the rich 102-year history of the VPL soccer has a club won three titles or more in succession.
Brunswick Juventus dominated the 1950s to collect five straight from 1952-57.
South Melbourne achieved the feat from 1964-66 and the Cavs did it from 1981-83.
The Cavs have a chance to create a piece of history in becoming the first club to claim a three-peat in different generations.
The team is in safe hands with the reappointment of nine-time championship-winning coach Ian Dobson.
Dobson, 54, a former defender with Hull City in the UK, has won two titles with the Magic, six with the Cavs and a National Soccer League title with the Melbourne Knights.
"He's a phenomenal coach," Mamo said.
"I don't think any coach in Australia has won as many titles as he has won.
"The club regards him as one of the top coaches in Australia.
"We're thrilled that he's been able to commit to the job."
The Cavs' only major loss is left-back Dean Kerr who returned home to NSW for business commitments.
They have brought in top-line midfielders Osagie Ederard, from Heidelberg United, and Scott Robson, imported from New Zealand.
Ederard is a technically sound winger with speed to burn and Robson has a potent mix of aggression and quick feet to be considered for a defensive midfield post.
Robson, transferred from NZ club side Wairarapa United, will be the third Kiwi to land at Green Gully Reserve following the success of Jason Hayne and Brent Fisher.
Mamo says he receives plenty of requests from overseas players to join the club every year.
"A lot of players contact us from not only New Zealand but around the world," he said.
"They know about our club and the strength of our club.
"We do our homework on each player and so far we've been pretty accurate."
The Cavs will host the Moreland Zebras in a preseason game on Saturday at 10.30am.
