FFV: Moment of truth for St Albans Saints

09 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
JUDGMENT day has arrived for the St Albans Saints.

The Saints will find out on Saturday if they are to be in a premier class in 2011.

The scintillating Saints moved into the Football Federation Victoria men's state league 1 promotion places after a crushing 3-1 victory over Bulleen Lions away at the Veneto Social Club on Monday night.

Mark Paleka fired in a double for the Saints, who moved into second place and one point clear of third-placed Fawkner Blues.

The Saints host Malvern City at Churchill Reserve in the final round on Saturday. Coach Kruni Razov knows a win against the bottom-of-the-ladder side will see the Saints promoted to Victorian soccer's top tier.

Meanwhile, Western Suburbs officially crashed out of the promotion chase with a 2-0 loss to Fawkner on its visit to CB Smith Reserve.

The Blues scored twice in the second half through Ridvan Saglam.
