17 May, 2011 12:00 AM
FINALS could be back on the agenda for Green Gully Cavaliers in the Victorian Premier League if their white-hot form proves no flash in the pan.

The resurgent Cavaliers have picked up 10 points in four games and moved to within touching distance of the top six after they spent time in the relegation places.

The Cavs won a pulsating affair 3-2 over South Melbourne at Green Gully Reserve on Saturday to stretch their unbeaten run to four games in the league.

The two sides went goal-for-goal until second half substitute Mathew Sanders fired in a 78th-minute winner for the Cavs.

The earlier goals for the Cavs were scored by Andy Vargas in the fourth minute and an own goal in the 52nd.

The Melbourne Knights and StAlbans Saints played on Sunday after the Weekly went to press.

Westgate was victorious 2-0 over Geelong in the men's state league 2 north-west at Ardeer Reserve.

It was Westgate's first points of the season since the FFV deducted the three points earned in its opening-round win over Altona City.

Alex Jovacic struck for the go-ahead goal in the 16th minute and the sealer was scored by in-form Kwabee Otou-Acheampong deep into second half stoppage time.

The Mussel brothers - Grant and Steven - struck the back of the net in Keilor Park's 2-0 win over Whittlesea United in the men's state league 3.

Bottom of the ladder Maribyrnong Greens had a 1-1 draw with second-last Hume United at Skinner Reserve.

Second-placed North Sunshine Eagles mauled Laverton Park 5-1 in the provisional league 1 north-west at Larissa Reserve.

In the same division, the Western Eagles toppled FC Strathmore 4-1 at the Polish Sports and Recreation Centre. Brimbank Stallions moved up to fourth with a 5-0 hammering of the Melton Phoenix in provisional league 3 north-west.
