ST Albans will reignite Friday night football in the Western Region Football League.
The Saints will raise the curtain this season with a blockbuster against newly promoted local rivals Deer Park Lions under lights at Kings Park Reserve on April 13.
Saints coach Ian Denny is excited by the prospect of his club showing the facilities at the Gillespie Road venue and the talent in the first division ranks.
"We're predicting a huge crowd," he said.
"Other clubs will come down to watch and we'll also get a lot of people from other leagues. We've got the facilities to cope with a big crowd."
The Saints are no stranger to night football, successfully hosting games under lights at the venue last decade.
"They played a finals game there at night about five years ago," Denny said.
"There's absolutely no issues with the lighting.
"We'll have caravans for food and drink set up around the ground to cope with the bigger crowd.
"It's pretty exciting for the club."
The Saints had been trying to bring back night football last season, but no club wanted to entertain the prospect.
Talks with Lions player-coach James Condos at the league presentation night after last season put the concept back on the table and it became a reality when the WRFL released its fixtures during the holiday period.
"It's going to give us opportunity to promote the league," Denny said.
The Saints are working feverishly this summer to take the next step from regular finalist to premiership contender.
They have been hit hard by the defections of Daniel McFerran, Marc Dawson, Lachlan Calder and Aaron Ford to Taylors Lakes in the Essendon District Football League, but Denny has a number of new recruits in his sights without cast-iron guarantees.
"Players are smarter these days," Denny said.
"They play clubs off one another so it's still too early to name names."
In other features of the WRFL draw, Spotswood will unfurl its division 1 flag in a grand final rematch against Albion in round one at McLean Reserve.
Anzac Day football is also on the cards in division 2 with Braybrook and West Footscray squaring off.
