WESTERN Eagles will yo-yo back to the Football Federation Victoria provisional league 1 north-west.
Twelve months on from the depression of relegation, the Eagles have the chance to make amends on immediate return next season.
The Eagles confirmed a top-two
finish in the provisional league 2 north-west with an uninspiring nil-all draw away to Melbourne Tornado at Newmarket Reserve in Flemington on
Saturday.
Eagles coach Sinisa Opacic said the scoreless draw did not mirror the kind of football they have played for most of the season.
"They didn't play something special," Opacic admitted.
"The one point is enough to finish at least second and get promoted."
The Eagles were lacking in all departments in the first half.
An injection of fresh legs saw them create a number of chances late in the second half to no avail.
The best chance fell to Wojciech Galon.
"The boys rushed in the finishing and didn't score," Opacic said.
"You miss all your chances and you can't win the game."
The Eagles, led by nine goals to Kacper Hubiak and eight each to Robert Chelchowski and Mateusz Kowalski, are hellbent on going up as champions.
They are in the box seat to do so with a four-point gap over second-placed Surf Coast with only two matches remaining.
One win will do it for the Eagles.
"The boys are not happy [with second place]," Opacic said.
"They want to finish on the top."
The Eagles can clinch the title in front of their home fans at the Polish Sports and Recreation Centre in Albion when they host Epping City on Saturday.
