VTCA: Bowlers steal thunder

15 Nov, 2011 12:00 AM
SUNSHINE United is desperate to toss aside the Victorian Turf Cricket Association north division formbook and get their season on the right track.

The bottom-of-the-ladder Tigers went into Saturday's local derby against ladder leaders Keilor at Keilor Recreation Reserve as underdogs, but finished the opening day with the upper hand after skittling the hosts for a mediocre 139 in 68.1 overs with Gareth Stevens (4-25) and Bill Blair (4-26) doing the damage.

The Tigers undid a bit of their good work in the final 11 overs of the day, losing 3-17, but still have seven wickets in hand to reach the target of 140.

Keilor Park faces an uphill task against Strathmore away at the Syd McGain Oval.

The Devils were lacking in firepower as they perished for 122.

The Mores are well on their way to first innings points on 2-59 at stumps.

In north A1, Taylors Lakes went in for a quick kill to take first innings points and everything else from here on in is a bonus in its clash with East Keilor at Lionheart Reserve.

The Lions rolled the visitors for 96 after a sensational haul of 5-16 from Shahan Withanage and have already passed the target five down with outright on their minds when day two commences on Saturday.

In the west B1, Sunshine YCW has wrapped up the first innings over Seabrook at Kinder Smith Reserve and will be keen to make further inroads on the top four by pursuing an outright result this weekend.
