SUNSHINE has produced a stirring 39-run victory over Werribee on the road in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association.
The Crows went into the Twenty20 round on Saturday as rank underdogs with the unavailability of inspirational skipper Troy Stone.
The tourists, however, defied the odds to return with a memorable win over a western suburbs rival.
Crows player-coach Romain Grenville said every player contributed to the upset by taking care of their individual roles.
"He [Stone] is our leader and was definitely missed," he said.
"We had enough resources to cover the loss. I was really proud of everyone."
The Crows made the most of their 20 overs to post an imposing 1-154.
The cornerstone to the explosion of runs was Grenville.
The big-hitting former North Melbourne district player chanced his arm early before carving out an impressive 92 not out.
Grenville's performances in cricket's shortest version this summer have been one of the highlights for the Crows.
"I had a decent day out," he said.
"I played a few lofty shots early and they came off.
"I'm feeling a bit more relaxed and comfortable in the Twenty20s because I like to entertain people and have a bit of fun."
Grenville acknowledged the tremendous support from John Blake and Evan Bassingthwaighte.
Bassingthwaig hte appeared at ease en route to 28.
"He played a real mature game," Grenville said.
Werribee was restricted to 7-121 off its allotted overs.
The Tigers made a promising start before it all unravelled in the middle overs when Crows teenage sensation Joey Blake captured 3-19 off four overs.
The key wicket of the innings was that of Shaun Dean and the Crows 14-year-old debutant wicketkeeper Adam Korsak took a spectacular catch to remove the danger man.
"Werribee bat around Shaun Dean and to get him out without a massive influence was good," Grenville said.
The Crows will continue to blood young players in the mould of Blake and Korsak.
It is an exciting time to be at the Phoenix Street club with a fresh faces earning their place in the top team, according to Grenville.
"We're taking steps forward," he said.
"They are the future of the club and I'm all about youth and progression."
The Crows host Yarraville, another of the VSDCA's up and coming teams, in a one-dayer at Dempster Park on Saturday.
Firsts: Werribee 7-121 (Blake 3-19 Grenville 2-22) v Sunshine 1-154 (Grenville 92no, Bassingthwaighte 28).
