SUNSHINE United coach Shamus Robertson says he is "totally rapt" with how his team has travelled over the past few years and is confident it is capable of surpassing expectations by cementing a spot in the finals.
United is sitting just outside the top four in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association North Division behind Keilor Park and Robertson says he believes his side will win its remaining two fixtures.
"I'm very confident we can perform well and win our next few games but our chances of making the top four depend on how Keilor fares in its matches," Robertson said.
"But to be honest if the season ended tomorrow I'd be really pleased with
our position and how we've played this year.
"We have a young side and it's about building it into a strong all-round unit over the next few years but I think we're headed in the right direction."
Of his young players, Robertson believes Shaun Buttigieg-Clarke is improving with each game while he says a number of district clubs will be chasing Timothy McGrath at the end of the season.
"Shaun has been getting some great results with the bat and has been consistent all year round," Robertson said.
"But he has a bit of a back problem at the moment and we hope to have him back to full strength in a few
weeks.
"McGrath is also someone who is showing a lot of promise for us and for the Western Spirit's under 18s and a lot of the district sides are very hot on him at the moment."
Robertson will be hoping his young charges will be at their best in the next few weeks and says there will be no excuses if his side fails to make the top four.
"One thing we made clear at the start of the season is that there would be no excuses after our last game and in the end we will either be good enough or not," he said.
"The statistics reveal how a side is going but if we don't make it doesn't really matter and we'll keep building in the years to come."
