Lacklustre Keilor underdogs for semi-final showdown

02 Mar, 2010 04:00 AM
KEILOR will meet Airport West-St Christophers in a Victorian Turf Cricket Association Saturday-Sunday semi-final showdown at Etzel Street Reserve in Airport West this weekend with the winner to advance to the grand final.

The Blues will go in as underdogs after losing their final two matches of the regular season.

On Saturday, they slumped to a heavy 65-run first innings loss to Old Essendon Grammarians on the road at the Penleigh and Essendon Grammar Oval.

The other senior division semi-final will be contested by minor premiers Yarraville Club and fourth-ranked South Caulfield.

■ Sunshine United did what it had to do and that was beat title contender Westmeadows in the last round of the north division. However, United's efforts were rendered useless as Doutta Stars pounced on fourth place in the finals with a resounding win over Hoppers Crossing.

A heartbroken United missed out on the finals by a miniscule 0.74 points.

Sunshine Druids had to be content with seventh place despite a 14-run win over Tullamarine at Tullamarine Reserve.

■ St Albans is the local hope in north A1.

The Saints have a massive task of having to beat Werribee Centrals on the road at Galvin Park in Werribee to move into the season decider. John Thrush's Saints outfit secured the third ranking in the semis with a 60-run triumph over Seddon at Hanmer Reserve.

Taylors Lakes had a draw with East Keilor to finish sixth, while Albion avoided relegation by the skin of its teeth despite an outright loss to Werribee Centrals.

■ Braybrook-based St Andrews went through its first season in north B1 without a win. The Saints ended the season with a 79-run loss to Flemington away at Walter Street Reserve.
