SUNSHINE Druids are fighting for their survival in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association north division.
Sitting in second-last position on the ladder, the numbers coming out of the first weekend of the Druids' clash with ladder-leader Strathmore do not look pretty for the home side at Skinner Reserve in Sunshine.
The Druids were upbeat after bowling the Mores out for a sub-standard 128.
But all the positivity surrounding the Druids was drained away by the loss of 8-59 in quick succession in the 33 overs before stumps.
Still requiring 69 runs with two wickets in hand, the tail had better wag for the Druids or they might find themselves on a collision course with relegation.
Sunshine United is striving to stay alive in the finals race.
Four points outside the top four, United needs to make every post a winner between now and the finals.
A victory seems a long way off for United against the Doutta Stars at Buckley Park.
The Stars were rolled for a meagre 162, but United stumbled to stumps on a disappointing 8-101 and were in danger of a low-scoring loss.
■ In the senior division, Keilor struggled on day one of its bout with a rejuvenated Williamstown CYMS at the Keilor Recreation Reserve.
The Blues were bowled out for just 170 in 54.5 overs.
The CYs cruised to stumps on 2-94.
■ Taylors Lakes was eliminated from the north A1 finals race by a St Albans outfit occupying the fourth position it was desperately seeking.
The Lakers were blasted to smithereens, all out for 93.
The sensational Saints had cantered to 6-188 at the close of day one, despite a six-wicket bag to Lakers speedster Glen Jones.
■ Braybrook-based St Andrews is ever so close to its first win in the north B1.
The Saints bowlers were on fire as premiership favourite Aberfeldie Park was bowled out for only 114 at Aberfeldie Park.
The visiting Saints were 5-58 in reply.
