YOUNG aspiring musicians from across the western suburbs have played alongside some of the state's most talented instrumentalists.
As part of a program by Orchestra Victoria, more than 80 secondary school students and music teachers joined forces with the orchestra's musicians and renowned conductor Stephen Williams for a two-day workshop at the Wyndham Cultural Centre in Werribee.
After two days of training to fine-tune their skills, they took their place alongside the orchestra's principal musicians and showcased their talents at a community concert in Werribee on August 18.
Orchestra Victoria artistic director Jo Beaumont said the program gave young musicians the chance to experience the thrill of rehearsing and performing alongside professional musicians.
"This is the seventh year Western Chances has partnered with us to run this exciting music education program for secondary school music students in the western suburbs.
"It provides a unique opportunity, the like of which many talented young musicians could only dream."
Western Chances provides scholarships to young people in the western suburbs who show a talent or ability and are from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Since 2003, more than 1700 students across the state have taken part in the workshops.
