St Albans crossing tragedy

25 Jan, 2012 09:29 AM
A MAN has been killed while crossing the notorious rail crossing in St Albans on Tuesday night.

The man, aged in his 40s, crossed into the path of a city-bound V-Line train near St Albans station about 5.30pm.

Witnesses say he was attempting to beat the train when he was struck.

The fatality - the third on the Sydenham line this month - caused major road and rail delays into the evening.

The death was followed by the electrocution of a 'train surfing' teen at Caulfield train station.

The 17-year-old from Camberwell was on the roof of the city-bound train when he touched live wires just before 11pm.

The teen had boasted on Facebook that he was the 'Kelly Slater of train surfing'.
