Speedster clocked at nearly 200km/h

01 Sep, 2010 11:21 AM
A DELAHEY man was nabbed speeding 117 km/h above the speed limit in Keilor.

The 31-year-old had his Honda Accord immediately impounded for 48 hours after travelling at 197 km/h in an 80 km/h zone west on the Calder Highway between the Western Ring and Green Gully Roads about 9.30pm last Monday.

He was arrested and charged with conduct of endangering life, excessive speeding and driving whilst suspended.

Fawkner Highway Patrol Senior Constable Cameron Manniche said the freeway was busy when the motorist was intercepted and his conduct had disregarded other road users’ safety.

‘‘Speed limits are in place for the safety of all Victorian road users and Victoria Police work hard to enforce then in order to reduce the road toll,’’ he said.
