MELTON Specialist School students have trialled new disability services on offer at Caroline Springs library.
In an effort to make the library experience more enjoyable for people with a disability, Melton Council has introduced audio books, BigKeys computer keyboards and accessible computer mouses at the Caroline Springs and Melton libraries.
Five students were given a tutorial on how to use the services during a visit to the library last Thursday.
The school's student welfare co-ordinator, Mark Worrell, said they were shown how to access their favourite books using the new technology.
"The keyboard with large buttons is great for people with visual disabilities, and the joystick-style mouse was a lot easier for the students to use, " he said. "They looked up cartoons on the screen and went and found them in the book section. They really loved it."
Pupils also painted large cows on a canvas which will be put up outside the historic Morton Homestead site in Taylors Hill.
"The land around the homestead used to be farmland and Melton Council asked us to do some paintings of cows which will be placed around the homestead," Mr Worrell said.
