POLICE caught almost 50 drivers speeding in Caroline Springs during a school zone blitz recently.
Brimbank highway patrol detected 10 vehicles speeding under 10km/h, 22 vehicles speeding between 10 and 15km/h, 14 vehicles speeding 15-25km/h and one vehicle speeding 30-35km/h.
They also picked up an unregistered vehicle and a driver using a hand-held mobile phone.
Senior Sergeant Les Hutchinson said he was shocked to discover that of 26 women caught speeding, the majority had either babies or schoolchildren in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, police nabbed 35 drivers during a traffic blitz in Sunshine last Wednesday.
The operation on Ballarat Road detected 29 men and six women travelling over the speed limit between 3.30 and 7pm.
A Werribee woman, 25, was caught travelling 130km/h in a 80km/h zone.
She received a $611 fine and lost eight demerit points.
Her licence was suspended for 12 months and her vehicle was impounded until March 16.
Police also issued fines for driving with insufficient distance behind a vehicle, failing to display P-plates and failing to wear a bicycle helmet.
