BRIMBANK Council is on the front foot in an effort to generate community interest in the celebration of Sunshine's 150th anniversary.
Council administrators have allocated $150,000 for events throughout the year of festivities and are seeking feedback from a range of community groups, traders, businesses and schools on ideas to mark 150 years of local government in the district.
Last week, The Advocate reported that the council had invited only three representatives from community groups to work on the festivities. This was incorrect - 23 representatives were in fact invited in July, but that only three were involved in the first workshop earlier this month.
As reported last week, several prominent groups, including the Friends of the McKay Memorial Gardens and Friends of Kororoit Creek Group, claimed they had never received an invite from the council and expressed concern too few people were organising the important event.
But council administrator Meredith Sussex this week said the offer was still open and welcomed input and ideas from the community.
The council is aiming for a brainstorm of ideas for the "year of celebration", hoping that any ideas they may have missed will be submitted by email.
The council said the money had been set aside for a series of activities and events to be held as part of individual festivals such as the Brimbank Festival.
