Not giving up time, but just sharing it

31 Aug, 2010 12:00 AM
ONE of Sunshine Hospital's youngest volunteers has been chosen as an ambassador for a program aiming to get other young people to help in the community.

Volunteer West has selected Thi Trinh to promote the Youth Speak Out program.

The initiative is targeting potential volunteers aged between 15-25.

Thi, one of 10 ambassadors chosen, volunteers at the hospital every Tuesday.

She completes administration tasks and distributes books from the library trolley to patients.

"I don't see volunteering as giving up my time; it is more about giving people my time," she says.

"I think it works because you are talking with people your own age and they can relate to you. I would recommend volunteering to everyone. Basically, it makes you feel good."

Volunteers chosen for the program have been trained in public speaking and will visit schools to promote opportunities for volunteering across the west.
