THE organisers of a new community venture are vowing to put smiles on the face of struggling Brimbank residents.
Businesses and volunteers are joining with the Sunshine and Deer Park Lions clubs to form a group called Western Festive Activities for the Disadvantaged.
WESTFAD will build on the work of the Lions groups to provide festive activities for families that might otherwise miss out.
Sunshine Lions board member Les Tarczon said the idea came after the clubs joined forces to organise Christmas hampers for local families in need.
They also co-hosted a Christmas dinner for 400 people.
"We are a voluntary organisation that plans to have fun while helping those less fortunate than ourselves have fun at the same time," he said.
WESTFAD recognises Christmas isn't the only time people find it difficult to get by.
Upcoming events will include a car 'show and shine', an Easter egg hunt and a marathon to raise funds for the Royal Children's Hospital.
Mr Tarczon wants people to help any way they can.
"There is no better feeling than making someone happy, and being part of an organisation like this means you can receive that feeling over and over again."
