Museum to harvest jewel of Sunshine's history

31 Aug, 2010 12:00 AM
THE history of Sunshine will be showcased in a new permanent collection at the National Museum of Australia.

To be opened next year, Landmarks: People and Places across Australia will tell the story of Australia since European colonisation. Sunshine is among the many communities that will be featured in the display.

Exhibits will include a Sunshine stripper harvester made at the Sunshine Harvester Works in 1911. The factory, which was based in Sunshine from 1906 to 1989, was started by Hugh Victor McKay and became the largest agricultural implements manufacturer in the southern hemisphere.

At one time it employed more than 2500 workers.
