PERSONAL tragedy drives a Hillside musician who is aiming to inspire people living without hope.
Jumpdred's debut album Pose for De Camera was launched on iTunes last week.
Born Toffa Samuel, the 30-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago decided to follow his dreams and tour the world with his music after his brother was murdered nine years ago.
His father died a few months later and Jumpdred knew he had to put the difficult period behind him by focusing on his music, which he describes as a mix of R&B and reggae.
He started work as a bass guitarist on an American cruise ship, where he met an Australian hairdresser. He married her and moved to Australia.
After arriving in Melbourne seven years ago, he worked in music production for Kensington-based independent label Too Much Variety Records.
In 2010, he penned a dozen tracks for his debut album, completing most of the songs within two weeks.
The father of three has spent the past year performing at local clubs and putting the finishing touches to the album in his home studio.
He hopes to spread his music and inspire others.
"I want to use my music and success to help those who are less fortunate and inspire them to follow their dreams."
Jumpdred will tour the state with DJ Zare Demus in the coming weeks.
