 Human hotline to pooch

Human hotline to pooch

07 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
FEW things are more annoying than finding your dog has just soiled your new living room rug or destroyed the flowers you planted in the backyard a few weeks ago.

Residents in the north-west may not have to endure such frustration for long, with a world-renowned dog trainer visiting Taylors Lakes this month.

Celebrity pooch trainer Brian Kilcommons (pictured) will conduct training demonstrations and offer tips on behavioural training for troublesome pets as part of an Australian tour.

Mr Kilcommons, who has appeared on TV shows Oprah and Good Morning America, claims to have trained 35,000 dogs, including the pets of Hollywood actors Harrison Ford and Ashley Judd.

The American says he can't wait to come to Australia and pass on some of his dog knowledge to local pet owners.

"All too often people expect behaviours and manners they have never taught the dog," he says.

"Make the training fun, be fair and firm. If your dog is not responding, look at what you are doing or not doing and don't blame the dog. Don't ask your dog to do something; be clear and tell them."

Mr Kilcommons will visit the PETstock store in Taylors Lakes from 5.30pm on February 17.

Owners of all types of pets, including cats, birds and mice, are welcome.
