PEOPLE with epilepsy or those caring for someone with the condition are being invited to a free seminar at Caroline Springs tomorrow.
The Epilepsy Foundation is presenting workshops with information on safety and lifestyle factors, triggers and causes, diagnosis, treatment and seizure types.
Foundation chief executive Graeme Shears encouraged people to attend, saying epilepsy was a common medical condition that would affect about 3per cent of the population at some stage of their life.
"We are seeing an increasing need for information and services in the Caroline Springs area," Mr Shears said.
"The growing population in the western suburbs, particularly in the number of families with young children moving into the area, means an increasing demand for services.
"Young children often present with uncontrolled and difficult-to-manage epilepsy, such as conditions like Dravet Syndrome, a particularly severe form of childhood epilepsy."
The workshop is being held in partnership with Melton Shire Council at Caroline Springs Civic Centre between 10am and noon. Details: 98059111.
