PUPILS at St Albans' Meadow Primary School will soon be rocking to some cool tunes during assembly in support for people with disabilities.
Scope Victoria's See the Person Week (May 17-21) encourages people to avoid focusing solely on a person's disability.
The school is one of 10 across Melbourne - including three in Brimbank - which will show a 10-minute DVD about Melbourne rock band Rudely Interrupted, which has released a single called Close My Eyes with all proceeds going to Scope.
Band frontman Rory Burnside, 23, who was born without eyes and has Asperger's syndrome, said that by acting together, people could change the way disability was perceived.
Scope chief executive Diana Heggie said:
"We have students from over 100 schools across Victoria who have committed their time and energy in helping us create an inclusive community through disability awareness and education.
"Many of these students will lead the charge during the week by creating respect, understanding and acceptance of others as well as raising awareness and understanding of the lives of people with a disability, not only in their schools but throughout their local community."
