Centre plans open day to mark $1.25m facelift

MORE groups will have access to meeting space now that refurbishment of the West Sunshine Community Centre is complete.

The $1.25million upgrade has taken about three years and includes an undercover barbecue area, consulting room, men's and women's change rooms, new lockers for groups to store their belongings, and a redeveloped kitchen.

There is also a new learning centre with 12 students' computers, a childcare area and a special room for maternal and child health nurses.

The centre has 31 regular user groups and Brimbank Council uses it to run 28 courses, including sports, recreation, computers and photography.

Community wellbeing general manager Kelly Grigsby said there was space for more groups and associations.

"Depending on the day and times they may need, there is space available.

"The refurbishments allow more availability for hire, and service providers are welcome to contact us for information."

The centre will hold an open day on March 20 from 1-4pm to celebrate completion of the works.

Restaurateur Richard Biscoe will hold a cooking demonstration and

other activities will include African drumming workshops and a performance by the Westside Circus youth troupe.

Details: Ko or Larry, 93115888.
