BRIMBANK'S streets and train stations would be far less safe if Brian Carroll stopped collecting discarded needles.
Mr Carroll, from Sunshine, has voluntarily picked up syringes for more than 20 years.
His work visiting dodgy alleys, car parks and train stations is not something many people would be willing to do.
Mr Carroll said during warm weather he would collect up to 200 needles a month.
He has found 20 needles during the past two months but said the number would have been higher had he done it regularly.
"The syringes would sit there until the council picked them up but some of the places I go to the council wouldn't go," Mr Carroll said. "These people that discard the needles have no respect for other people.''
"There are always needles at Sunshine train station, they'd pull up in any street in Brimbank and just drop it. I'd rather do something about it, and so do a lot of other people in Brimbank, it's not just me."
