CAROLINE Springs College principal Michael Fawcett says sports-mad students are benefiting from the school's new gymnasium.
Students have been using the $3.2million multipurpose centre since November and Mr Fawcett says it has helped attract a number of elite young athletes to the college.
The gym was officially opened last week.
"It's very important given Caroline Springs' rapid expansion and it's great to have an indoor sports facility for the students," he said.
"We have strong ties with the Western Jets [in the Aussie rules under-18 TAC Cup competition] and a number of their players now attend our school. It's great to offer them state-of-the-art facilities."
The centre was opened by Gorton MP Brendan O'Connor.
On the same day, he opened a $2.1million library and classrooms at St Albans Primary School.
"This new multi-purpose building at Caroline Springs College will not only offer the nearly 4000 students increased education opportunities, it's providing the local community with a fantastic facility for us all to share," he said.
He said the St Albans development offered new classrooms and a flexible learning space where previously pupils were taught in portable classrooms.
